Plan now to be part of EITC Awareness Day on Friday, January 29, 2010 - a national grassroots effort spotlighting this potentially life-changing tax credit. Join with other charitable organizations, elected officials, state and local governments, employers and other interested parties in your community to generate extensive media coverage on this day.
The need to reach out and ensure every qualified worker claims and receives their EITC is greater than ever. IRS estimates more taxpayers may qualify in 2009 due to changes in their incomes...and may not know it. In addition, working families with three or more children may qualify to get more money due to recent tax law changes.
EITC could put up to $5,657 into the pockets of eligible taxpayers (even more if they live in a state with a similar state credit). This is money taxpayers can use to make their lives a little easier now or money they can put away for a rainy day. For the upcoming 2010 filing season, with a simple check of a box, taxpayers can convert their income tax refunds into I Savings Bonds.
But, taxpayers must file and claim the credit to receive it. And, that all begins with awareness of EITC.
Please plan to be part of this national outreach day to eligible taxpayers. Many tools and resources will be available to support you. Most will be available in this online toolkit by late December.
