EITC Awareness Day 2009 was January 30, 2009

The goal of EITC Awareness Day was to inform taxpayers - especially those who may qualify and do not know it - about the Earned Income Tax Credit and point them to free tax assistance to determine their eligibility and help them claim the credit. The purpose of setting one day as "EITC Awareness Day" is to generate extensive media coverage on that date, at both the national and local levels, in print, electronic, and special language media.  It is an opportunity for interested parties within a geographical area - charitable organizations, congressional representatives, elected officials, state and local governments, employers, etc. - to collaborate and speak with a common voice about this potentially life-altering tax credit.

EITC Awareness Day 2009 is a Success

EITC Awareness Day 2009 was successful. More than 85 news conferences were held around the country and over 100 press releases were issued around the country. IRS partners, congressional members, governors and city mayors participated in local media events. Additional media outreach included a news conference with USA Today, radio interviews reaching over 700 radio stations throughout the country and a print interview with over 50 reporters. English and Spanish satellite media tours were held with play totaling on over 43 television networks. Spanish media also included a press conference with over 50 participants including two 2 radio networks with nationwide coverage.
