EITC Key Communication Messages

Please note the changes to our 2012 key messages. The old "One out of four taxpayers don't claim their EITC" message was replaced last year. Because of our collective efforts to alert taxpayers about the Earned Income Tax Credit, the latest data indicates more qualified taxpayers are getting their credit. We now estimate four of five eligible taxpayers received their EITC last year. This means millions of additional taxpayers are getting the credit they've earned. We also added a message with a direct call to action that clarifies EITC is not a handout, but a benefit resulting from their work.

• EITC is a financial boost for working people in a recovering economy.
• You earned it. Now file, claim it and get it.

• EITC can make life a little easier.
