Important Note to Maryland Partners

What's planned?

We are joining with the Comptroller of Maryland to reach state residents who appear to be eligible for, but did not claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) on their 2006 federal and state returns. The Comptroller of Maryland sent letters to approximately 6,000 individuals and we welcome your help in alerting clients to this mailing.

The letter includes instructions, forms and information on where to get help. Clients who receive these letters may be eligible to receive up to $4,536 from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and up to an additional $2,268 from the Comptroller of Maryland, but they must reply and provide the requested information. After verifying their information, the IRS and the state will send them checks for the amount of their credit.

How can You Help?

These individuals previously received, but did not reply to, a letter from IRS.  This is where we need your help.  Please use your communication channels to encourage clients to respond.  We have drafted a sample article for your newsletter and a news release to help you.  We want all eligible taxpayers to receive the EITC they are due and appreciate any communication support you can provide.

If you also sponsor a volunteer assistance site, please alert your volunteers. The letter does not direct taxpayers to volunteer assistance sites for help, but they may still receive questions.
