A Reply to This Letter Could be Money in Your Pocket

Check your mailbox. If you are one of the over 5,500 New York City residents to receive a letter from the New York City Department of Finance about the 2008 Earned Income Tax Credit, reply immediately. You may be eligible to receive up to $4,824 from the IRS. But you must reply and provide the requested information. Follow the instructions in the letter to complete the worksheets or find information on where to get help.

You may also be eligible for the state Earned Income Tax Credit for tax year 2008. If New York State determines you qualify for this credit, they will contact you in March 2012. You do not have to do anything to claim the State and/or City Earned Income Tax Credit for tax year 2008.
